Adoption Family Retreat - March 10 - 12, 2017

The Adoption Family Retreat is a time to encourage and strengthen your family in many ways. Hear excellent Biblical teaching from speakers who share your life situation. Enjoy networking with other families, and receive counsel and advice from professionals in the field. Horseback riding, ziplines, the climbing wall, tubing hills, broomball, cross-country ski trails, and a warm fireplace are a sampling of some of the activities you can enjoy with your family. This weekend is suited for families who have adopted, are in the process of adopting, or who are investigating adoption. Come join us as we encourage each other.

2017 Retreat Speaker - Karl Kramer

Kramer Family

We are excited to have Karl as our keynote speaker and thrilled to have their family join us as well. Karl grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Heather. They both attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. Karl served 8 years as youth pastor in Hinsdale before coming to Community Church in Oshkosh, WI in 2005. He is the Youth and Family Pastor and it fits him perfectly. He loves spending time with his family and enjoys the outdoors. Both Karl and Heather have a special place in their heart for adoption and have 9 children: Amelia, Hannah, Bethany, Weston (who passed away in 2009), Jakobi, Hope, Ian, Silas, and Karleigh. You are going to enjoy getting to know their family.

Retreat Partner - Bethany Christian Services

Bethany Christian Services
We are excited to partner with Bethany Christian Services. They are sending Kim Werth an International Adoption Specialist and Jenny Schmeichel to not only lead seminars but they are making themselves available throughout the weekend to meet, encourage and answer your questions. See below for a brief bio on Kim and Jenny along with seminar descriptions.
Kim Werth has earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work and currently is the International Adoption Specialist with Bethany Christian Services. Kim is an adoptee and adoptive mother and has a passion for serving in the adoption system. She looks forward to talking with you throughout the weekend.
Jenny Schmeichel has earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. She currently supervises the International and Infant Domestic Adoption programs for Bethany in Wisconsin. She possesses a wide range of training and experience in adoption related challenges, providing education and support to adoptive families and other professionals.

Seminar

Parenting adoptive children can be very challenging but rewarding. During this Q&A panel discussion we will begin talking about trauma your kids may have experienced but bring your questions as many other topics will be discussed. Kim and Jenny have over 20 years combined experience and are excited to encourage you, answer questions and give you resources.

Retreat Youth Program - Pete and Jocelyn Sutton!

We are very excited to have Pete and Jocelyn return to lead the child and youth care program. Last year they did an excellent job during the adult meeting time and we were thrilled when they said they would come back. Pete is the Middle School Pastor and Student Ministries Director at ChristCommunity Church in St. Charles, IL. Jocelyn is currently being trained through Empowered ToConnect and they both truly believe in the adoption and foster care system. They have been foster parents for nine years and have adopted three children. Your children will be in good hands while you are encouraged with Biblical teaching.
